KILMOGANNY BRIDGE CLUB: The results of Wednesday 22nd March were: 1st Philip Brennan & Nellie O’Shea; 2nd: Emer Wallace & Carmel O’Sullivan; 3rd Jackie Kenneally & Grace Landy. Bridge takes place each Wednesday at 8.00 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. Visitors are always welcome and partners will be provided if necessary.

GREAT WAR REMEMBERED: The Kilkenny Great War Memorial Committee will present an evening of song, stories and poetry, featuring a talk by military historian and curator of Stephen's Barracks Military Museum, Larry Scallen, entitled 'From Bugle Call to Tolling Bell' at 8.00 p.m. on this Friday, 31st March in the Rising Sun, Mullinavat.  This commemorative event will also feature guest readers and music by the Deenside Minstrels which will recall the events and effects that the First World War had on the lives of so many people.  Tickets, €5, are available from Tomás Breathnach (086-0704114) and at the Rising Sun (051-898173). There were 175 families from South Kilkenny bereaved by the loss of loved ones in World War 1.  Others served in World War 1to return to their families but were changed and/or affected by the experiences for the remainder of their lives.


 


CHARITY MONSTER AUCTION: There will be a Charity Auction in St. Eoghan`s Centre, Kilmoganny on Sunday 30th April at 4.00 p.m.. There is a beautiful collection of assorted items kindly donated by a local person. Viewing in St. Eoghan`s Centre, Kilmoganny on Friday 28th April from 12.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. and on Saturday from 11.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Further donations of quality items would be welcome. Proceeds will go to St. Joseph’s Home, Kilmoganny and to the Kilmoganny GAA Field.


 


AN EVENING OF SONG AND STORIES will take place in the Set Theatre, Langton’s, Kilkenny on this Friday 31st March at 8.00 p.m. The Charity event is in aid of L’Arche, Kilkenny Communities who provide residential and day care services for adults with intellectual disabilities. Among the musicians are Paddy Fitzpatrick, Joseph O’Faolain, Paddy Cleere, Dan Ryan and Becky and Jim Maher the Seanachaí. Admission is €10 and the doors open at 7.30 p.m.


 


THE KNITTING AND CROCHET CIRCLE meetings continue in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny on every second Thursday at 7.00 p.m. The next meeting is on this Thursday 3th March. New participants are always welcome, just come along.


 


KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: In the Juvenile 40 x 20 County U 15 B Boys Singles representing Kells was Cillian Lawrence and in Boys U 14 B Singles were Ciaran Phelan, John O’Brien, Ryan Grace, Matthew O’Sullivan and Steven Doheny. They all played well but were unlucky not to make the semi-finals.


In the Leinster Final of the Intermediate Doubles Brendan Burke (Kells) and Ciaran Neary (Talbot’s Inch) overcame Dan Fenlon/Ollie Ryan (Carlow) 21-5, 21-12. In the Leinster Final of the Minor Doubles Conor Condon/Eoin Brennan (Kells) lost out to Adam Walsh /Anthony Butler (Wexford) 21-19 21-5. In the Leinster semi-final of the Junior B Doubles Diarmuid Burke/Anthony Martin (Kells) defeated Eamonn Hawe/Sean Foley (Windgap) 21-9 21-7. In the Leinster Final of the Ladies Junior B Doubles Aoife Walsh (Kells) and Margaret Purcell (Windgap) overcame Orla Foy & Joan Tierney (Westmeath) 20-21, 21-9, 21-4. Congratulations and very well done.


In the 40 x 20 Open Senior Doubles Patrick Funchion and Peter Funchion (Kells) received a walkover from Owen McKenna/Sean Devine (Antrim) and Brendan Burke (Kells)/Ciaran Neary (Talbot’s Inch) lost out to Brendan Fleming/Tony Healy (Cork).
