U 16 HURLERS PIPED IN FINAL MINUTES: The Dunnamaggin U16 hurlers contested the Roinn A league final in Thomastown against city side O’Loughlin’s Gaels on Monday 8th May last. The city side started the game well playing with the wind It was however Dunnamaggin who score a lucky goal when Andy Hickey was fouled and the ball that he played in during the referee’s advantage somehow eluded the O’Loughlin’s keeper. O’Loughlin’s however struck back with a goal of their own in the next passage of play when their full forward Vincent O’Grady gave Dunnamaggin keeper Joe Fitzpatrick no chance. Both sides traded points over the next few minutes with Dunnamaggin’s coming through Alex Moore and Denis Walsh, both frees. O’Loughlin’s then hit a purple patch hitting four unanswered frees. As the game headed into the last 10 minutes of the half Alex slotted another free to keep Dunnamaggin in touch. Conor Brett who was lively throughout found the net after some ping pong in front of goal for a few seconds. O’Loughlin’ then added a point as did Denis Walsh from the placed ball. With half time looming the city outfit broke forward again and after a fine initial stop by Joe Fitzpatrick in the goal the ball fell kindly to a waiting O’Loughlin’s player who had an easy touch in. Both sides traded points just before half time the Dunamaggin score came through Conor Brett, a fine effort from play. The Half Time Score was: Dunnamaggin 2 - 05 O’Loughlin’s 2 - 08

Dunnamaggin started the second half well. The expected wind advantage had died down a bit but Harry Walsh coolly stepped up and slotted a 65’. Alex Moore and Andy Hickey were starting to get on a bit more ball and Andy slotted a nice point from play. Conor Kelly the O’Loughlin’s centre forward and free taker slotted another free to leave two between the sides after 10 minutes. Derick Carroll grabbed a great ball out of the sky on the edge of the square, turned and struck only for it to go barely wide. Derick was however to get his chance again in the next minute of play but this time to the right side of goal and he made no mistake a bullet of a shot. Dunnamaggin one point up! 3 - 07 to 2 - 09. Alex Moore and Andy Hickey then had some great inter play before Andy slotted another point. Kelly slotted another free to keep O’Loughlin’s in touch. Conor Brett stepped up and grabbed a ball straight from the puck out and split the posts. Harry Walsh put over another 65’ to finally put some day light between the sides as the game headed into the last 10 minutes. O’Loughlin’s however battled back and slotted 4 unanswered points through Conor Kelly to clinch the title for O’Loughlin’s and break the hearts of the Dunnamaggin lads who had put in such an effort. Full Time Dunnamaggin 3 - 10 O’Loughlin Gaels 2 – 14
