KILMOGANNY BRIDGE CLUB: The results of Wednesday 7th June were: 1st: Grace Landy & Elizabeth Lanigan; 2nd: Josie O’Gorman & Nicholas Flavin; 3rd: Eileen Grace & Theresa Walsh. Bridge takes place each Wednesday at 8.00 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. End of year Prize Night is this Wednesday 14th June. Visitors are always welcome and partners will be provided if necessary.

THE FEILE NA nGAEL competition takes place this weekend June 16th to 18th. Dunnamaggin are hosting Ballyheigue from Kerry. Ballyheigue will arrive at lunch time Friday. Anyone who wishes to do so can come to the hurling pitch around one o'clock to welcome them. Refreshments will be available at the pitch and some of the children from the school will be playing a hurling game amongst themselves. On Friday evening at 5.00 p.m. & at 6.00 p.m. both Dunamaggin and Ballyheigue will play two matches in Glenmore. On Saturday morning Dunnamaggin will play Ballyheigue at the pitch in Dunnamaggin at 11 o’clock. As many people as possible are asked to support the teams. Again refreshments will be available after the game. On Saturday evening there will be a meal provided by Creative Catering in the school hall at 8.00 p.m.. The Ballyheigue team, mentors and players will be catered for as well as our own u 14 players, mentors and parents. Anyone who is around is welcome to come to the hall as well. After the meal there will be a DJ. Ballyheigue will return to Kerry on Sunday. It is a big event in the parish as the club has not hosted the Feile in over 30 years. The Dunamaggin Club hopes to create a positive impression of the club for its visitors and all support during the weekend will be greatly appreciated by the club. The Dunamaggin and Ballyheigue club colors are now flying high in the village of Dunamaggan.


 


MAURA DAVIS from Dunamaggan village dies peacefully in Tennypark Nursing Home on Saturday 3rd June. Maura celebrated her 95th birthday last fall. Her remains reposed at her home in Dunamaggan before removal to St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan on the following Monday evening where they were received by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. The mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday 6th by Rev. Nicholas Flavin with concelebrants Revs. William Dalton and  . Members of the family read the readings and prayers of the faithful. She is survived by her sons Michael, Pat and Ger and her daughters Bernie and Mary, in-laws, grand and great grand-children, relatives and friends. She was born Maura O’Dwyer in Stonecarthy and moved to Dunamaggan in 1947 when she married her husband Joe who died suddenly in 1987. From shortly after her marriage until the late 1980’s Maura ran a succesful shop in Dunamaggan. In the last few years Maura’s health deteriorated but her loving family provided 24 hour care for her until in recent times she had to transfer to Tennypark nursing home where she received excellent care. She was laid to rest in Kilmoganny cemetery. May she rest in peace.


 


ANNE (NAN) O’DWYER formally of Kilree died in the loving care of her daughter Anne in Whiteswall, Knocktopher last Wednesday 7th June. Her remains were removed from Molloy’s Funeral Home in Callan on last Friday to St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan where they were received by Rev. Nicholas Flavin assisted by Rev. Seamus Humphreys OSA. The chief celebrant at the mass of Christian Burial last Saturday we Rev. Seamus Humphreys OSA with con-celebrants Revs. Nicholas Flavin, William Dalton, Fergus Farrell, Liam Cassin and  . She is survived by her sons Liam, Milo, Tommy, Christie, Jimmy, John, her daughter Anne and sister Bridie Bergin in Callan. On the death of her husband Thomas 20 years ago she moved to Kilkenny until she moved to her daughter Anne in Knocktopher over two years ago when her health deteriorated. She dies peacefully in the loving care of her daughter. She was laid to rest in Kilmoganny cemetery. May she rest in peace.


 


KELLS HANDBALL CLUB competed in Feile NaGael 2017, which was hosted by Wexford and Carlow. The boy’s team were in 40 x 20 Division 4 which was played in Davidstown and the members were Matthew O’Sullivan, Ciaran Phelan, John O’Brien, Ryan Grace and Harry Delaney.  The girl’s team were in 40 x 20 Division 2 which was played in St. Joseph’s and the members were Rachel Doherty, Orla Buckley, Ailise Mahony, Nadine Brennan and Sarah Condon.   The boys competed against Galmoy Kilkenny, Boherbue, Cork, Windgap, Kilkenny and Ballydesmond, Cork. After defeating Windgap and Galmoy and won a game off Ballydesmond and Boherbue, they qualified for the Cup Final where they put up a great performance but were defeated by Boherbue Cork and received their silver medals. The girls competed against Michael Breathnach, Galway, Conna, Cork, Cullohill, Laois and St. Joseph’s, Wexford.  After taking a game off Cullohill and Conna and a count up of aces, the girls qualified to play in the Plate Final where they played extremely well to defeat Cullohill and receive their bronze medals.  Congratulations and very well done to all the players, coaches and their parents for a successful day of handball.
