KILMOGANNY AUGUST WEEKEND FESTIVAL AND WEDDING: Final preparations are now being made for the Annual August Weekend Festival in Dunamaggan. The highlight of this year’s festival in the Wedding of the Year. The Bridal Party and Groom, at present are top secret as is the officiating ‘priest’. All will be revealed on Sunday evening at 7.00 p.m. in Dunphy’s Lounge which will be transformed for the ceremony and later celebrations. Tickets are now on sale for the `Wedding of the Year` in all usual local outlets. The cost of tickets is €15. This includes the Wedding Show, Barbeque Buffet and 5 piece Band `Vegas Nights`. Admission to Band only at 10.00 p.m. is €5. Raffle tickets are also on sale at Kilmoganny Post Office for `Barbeque, Hamper and Bottle Whiskey. Kilmoganny Festival commences with a 5k Family walk through scenic area in Kilmoganny at 4.00 p.m. on Saturday 5th August. The entry per family for the walk is €10 with refreshments served later. Individual entries are €7. On Sunday 6th August at 11.45 a.m. there will be a Vintage Parade of cars and machinery etc. through Village down to Kilmoganny Pitch where they will be on Display. This will be immediately followed by Children’s fancy dress parade. At 12 noon a Juvenile Football Match will take place which will be followed by Juvenile Hurling Match and at 3.00 p.m. To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of  Dunnamaggin`s 1st and only Senior Hurling Championship win, the great Team of 1997 will take to the field once more to take on Dunnamaggin’s 2017 team. Who will win? Will they beat the Champions? There will be a Dog Show at 1.00 p.m. Other events include Bouncy Castle, Music, Barbeque, Games and Tug of War at 4.00 p.m.  Stalls are welcome. ROAD CLOSURES: The road from Baurscoob Cross to Sheepstown Cross, the R699, will be closed to vehicular traffic on Wednesday 26th; Thursday 27th, Friday 28th and Monday 31st July from 7.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.. This is because of road resurfacing in the area. Local diversions will be in place. Local access will be subject to delays. Road users are asked to follow the instructions of County Council staff so as to ensure safety.

BRIDGET GLENDON late of England and formally of Goodwinsgardens was laid to rest in Dunamaggan Cemetery on Friday last 21st July. The mass of Christian burial was celebrated by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. at which members of her family read the readings and prayers of the faithful. She was 84 years old and spent most of her adult life in England but her wish was to have her final resting place in her native Dunamaggan. May she rest in peace.


 


ALL IRELAND SUCCESS: Congratulations to Anthony McCormack on his management of the Kilkenny Intermediate Team which won the All-Ireland title in Cork last Sunday by 2 – 23 to 2 – 18. Victor Costello was a member of the victorious Kilkenny panel.


KELLS HANDBALL: In the One Wall Nationals Open Senior singles Peter Funchion (Kells) was defeated by Johnny Woods (Tyrone) and lost out in the Plate semi-final, in Men’s B Plate Final Dan Breen defeated Seamus Connelly (Galway), in the U 17 Singles Eoin Brennan (Kells) defeated Michael Egan (Roscommon) in the final and in the U 13B Singles Harry Delaney (Kells) defeated Sean Callan (Monaghan) in the final. Congratulations and well done to you all.


In the Wall Ball Championships in the U 17 Singles Eoin Brennan (Kells) was defeated in the Final by Dara Curran (Tyrone). Good luck to the Kells Handball Club participants in the 60 x 30 U 13 tournament: Adam O’Sullivan, Joseph Prendergast and Emmet Nolan and to the players in the 60 x 30 Nationals: Cathal Buckley, John Hayes, Katie Grace, Marissa Dunne, Harry Delaney, Eoin Brennan and Brian Manogue.
