U15 Roinn B Hurling Co.Champions

Well done to the Dunnamaggin U15 Hurlers who were crowned county champions in a very windy Dunmore on Saturday Last. In a repeat of the league final they were placed against fellow southern side Piltown who had won out on that occasion. It as a bright but very breezy day in Dunmore and Piltown elected to play with the strong breeze in the first half. Dunnamaggin got a great start when Scott McDonald opening the scoring with a point from play which was closely followed with one from Cathal Buckley. These were however to be Dunnamaggins only scores of the quarter with Piltown owning the quarter. They put huge pressure on the Dunnamaggin backs and Dunnamaggin Goalie Tim Doherty who had some very dangerous high ball to contest with. Eoin Hogan got in for a well worked goal and the O’Brien brothers of Niall and Cathal added four points between them. Dunnamaggin 0:2 to Piltown 1:04 at the water break. Dunnamaggin used the water break to good effect to reset and make a few positional changes. Niall got another point for Piltown to stretch their lead but Dunnamaggin were playing better and creating scoring chances. Cathal Buckley put over a free which he immediately followed up with a goal when he found himself in the right place at the right time from a long ball in to bring it to a 3-point game. Piltown and Dunnamaggin traded points but that gap remained at half time which the Dunnamaggin lads would take considering they were 6 down at one stage against a strong breeze. HT Dunnamaggin 1:05 Piltown 1:08

The second half would turn out to be a much different affair as with the Piltown puck outs now not going as far against the strong breeze the Dunnamaggin forwards were able to put huge pressure on and within a few mins of the restart it was a draw game. Cathal Buckley then popped over a free and then a bit of luck fell the Dunnamaggin lad’s way when a shot in by Cathal took a deflection and into the back of the net. 1:04 on the bounce. Piltown are too good a side to just lie down and they responded immediately with 3 points to leave just one point between the sides. The Dunnamaggin players however were hurling with huge belief as we headed to the second water break the backs lead by Captain Eoin Shiel and Full back Pierce Costello were putting in a ferocious effort in to snuff out any further scores. Cathal put over another free and then Noah Cahill popped over one from play, just reward for the effort he put in throughout. Cathal Tagged on another free just before the water break to give it Dunnamaggin 2:12 Piltown1:11 at the water break. The last quarter served up some super hurling, displaying heart commitment and will to win on both sides. No side wanted to lose and were fighting for every ball such was the contest that it yielded only one score a piece Brian Hickey popped over a point and Piltown matched it. This was enough to give Dunnamaggin a 4-point win crown them Co. Champions after a super game of hurling from both sides. FT Dunnamaggin 2:13 Piltown 1:12.
