Reign of Terror Obstacle Course Race Saturday October 22nd 2016

21 October 2016

An Exhilarating Experience in Kells.

‘Reign of Terror’ is a thrilling event making its debut in Kilkenny this year; an obstacle course run

that will take place in and around the scenic and historic village of Kells on October 22

nd.

The local community are keen to take advantage of the massively growing demand for Obstacle

Course Racing in Ireland. Current leading brands include ‘To Hell and Back’ and ‘Tough Mudder’ but

the Kells event; ‘Reign of Terror’ aims to quickly become the leading event in the South East of

Ireland and is pitched at a sensible price that won’t hurt your wallet.

The village of Kells itself boasts a fascinating history, much of which is well preserved to this day.

Medieval Kells was originally quite an extensive town and being close to the Munster border was

attacked and burned on numerous occasions by the Munster warlords. Maurice Fitz Thomas was the

1st Earl of Desmond and resided in Kinsale. His first venture into politics was a feud with Arnold Le

Poer, the Seneschal of Kilkenny. This feud resulted in Maurice’s private army rampaging through

county Kilkenny as far back as 1327. Before he was done he had tracked down and executed thirteen

of Arnold’s relations as well as finally sacking and burning Kells before returning over the border to

Munster.

Kells offers a unique location for Obstacle Course Racing in Ireland. The majority of the obstacles are

naturally occurring, utilising the local environs of the Kings River and the historic Kells Priory.

The committee organising the Reign of Terror are not new to event management and have had many

successes in the past, most notably a monster lawnmower ride in 2013 that made the Guinness Book

of Records, and 2 Ultra Cycles events, one in 2014 which covered 750km in 4 days and one in 2015

which covered 650km in 3 days. This time the Reign of Terror Team feel they have found a growing

market, and in particular a unique event that will have friends, work colleagues, clubs, individuals and

groups coming back to Kells year after year. The communities of Kells and Dunnamaggin have worked

very hard over the last number of years organizing events to raise much needed funds to enhance

their local areas. This year we have combined forces to come up with an event that will provide the

local community with a really spectacular experience, and a vehicle for fund raising into the future.

Obstacle Course Racing is really taking off in Ireland, and Kells is uniquely positioned to provide an

event with natural obstacles and tough terrain set in an exceptionally picturesque and historic setting.

The Reign of Terror course is designed so that athletes are visible at all times making it perfect for

those who want a tough challenge in a spectator friendly environment.

‘Reign of Terror’ has both 5km and 10km options filled with natural and manmade challenges to test

you physically and mentally.

You will get wet, you will get muddy, the question is have you got what it takes to complete The Reign Of Terror?
