KILMOGANNY POST OFFICE REOPENS on this Thursday 24th November on the site of the former Post Office which was destroyed by fire over three years ago. Since then the Post Office has operated from St. Eoghan’s Centre in Kilmoganny. The Post Office will open at the usual time of 9.00 a.m. but there will be an official opening at about 10.00 a.m. with refreshments served. All are welcome to attend.


DUNAMAGGIN GAA CLUB A.G.M.: The a.g.m. took place on last Friday in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan. Outgoing Chairman, John Hickey, in his address to a well-attended meeting thanked all the club officials for their dedication and hard work of the past year. He also congratulated Matt Doran, an active member of the club executive, on his election as the first resident of the parish to be elected Chairperson of Kilkenny Co. Council. In his detailed address he stated that the past year was reasonably succesful but it was important to aim to achieve greater success next year. He thanked Brian O’Shea, William Mulhall and Cierán Moore for their help with first aid and rehab programmes for players. He thanked Sheridan’s Glass for their main Sponsorship and all other sponsors. He thanked Michael Murphy, Dick O’Shea & Tom Phelan for organising the Golf Classic, the DKK lotto for their continued support and all those who in any way assisted with the Reign of Terror. He thanked the Dunamaggan Field Committee and the Field Committee in Kilmoganny who ensured that the field was available for Juvenile training during the summer. He thanked the “I’m not a Celebrity – Keep me in here” committee for their support and the organisers of the Field Day in Kilmoganny. He congratulated Anthony McCormack on his appointment as Manager of the Kilkenny Intermediate team. As he was not going forward as Chairperson he urged members of his generation to get more involved in the running of the club.


Secretary, Martin Crehan, in his report outlined the progress of teams in various competitions and expressed condolences to all families who were bereaved during the past year. A minutes silence was observed for those who died during the past year.


Treasurer, Philip Tallon, in his report gave a detailed account of income and expenditure during the past year. He encouraged as many as possible to support the DKK Lotto as it is a very important source of revenue. He thanked Michael Murphy and the Golf Classic team for their tremendous work each year. The sellers and purchasers of Piltown tickets were complemented as income from these sales is vital to the club’s income.


The following Officers were elected: President: Rev. Nicholas Flavin; Chairman: Dick O’Shea: Vice-Chairman: John Fitzpatrick; Secretary: Aine Walsh; Insurance Officer: Andrew O’Neill; Treasurer: Philip Tallon; PRO: James Rossiter; Representative to Co. Board & to Southern Board: Tom McCormack; ASAP Officer, Child Welfare Officer: Tom Hickey; Registrar: Barbra Rossiter; Facilities, Maintenance & Development Officer: Andrew O’Neill. In addition to the officers the following will form the Executive: John Hickey, Pat Long, Matt Doran and Denis Lahart and a players representative. The executive e may co-opt additional members.


The club constitution was ratified for the coming year.


Thanks was expressed to Seanie Fox who is stepping down as Intermediate Team Manager. William Coogan was appointed as Manager and Trainer of the Intermediate team with the right to appoint his selectors. The executive will appoint Junior A and U 21 Selectors at a later date. It was stated that the Club Strategic Plan will need to be reviewed during the coming year.

KILMOGANNY BRIDGE CLUB: The results of Wednesday November 16th were: 1st: Pascal Grace & Ellen Delahunty; 2nd: Rita Townsend & Jackie Kenneally; 3rd: Kathleen O’Shea & Mary Lonergan. Bridge takes place each Wednesday at 8.00 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. Visitors are always welcome and it is not necessary to have a partner as one will be provided on the night.


 


KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: In the County 60 x 30 championships in the Senior Doubles Diarmuid Burke and Brendan Burke (Kells) received a walkover from Daniel Love and William Love (Clogh); in the Intermediate Singles Final Anthony Martin (Kells) lost out to Brian Mahon (Clogh); in the Senior Doubles Final Brendan Burke and Diarmuid Burke (Kells) defeated Ciaran Neary/Martin Lalor (Talbots Inch); in the Intermediate Doubles Finals Anthony Martin/Diarmuid Burke lost out to Shane Dunne/Padraig Cooney (Clogh) 


In the Primary schools 40 x 20 tournament John Hayes, Kells won out the U 11 Boys singles and Ross O’Neill and Sean Lawton Kells won out the U 11 Boys doubles.  Well done to you all.


In the Open Senior 40 x 20 Interclub Team championship, Kells defeated Garryhill, Carlow and then defeated Kells, Co. Meath in the Leinster Final. The team was Brendan Burke, Brian Manogue, Dan Breen, Peter Funchion and Patrick Funchion.  Well done and congratulations on your Leinster Final win. 


 


COOLAGH CARDS BEGIN: This Thursday sees the start of the great Christmas Card-games out in Coolagh for great prizes of hams and hampers. Chairman of the Coolagh Club, Billy Maher says the scene is set and ready to play with the start at 8.00 p.m. this Thursday evening. Whilst card-games in general are declining across the country, Coolagh card-games of the hard fought "25"s are proving successful with many players from around a large area. The Ladies Caterers will be on hand to dish out the savouries and a cuppa. These games are now in play for over thirty years. So come along and enjoy the old traditional game in a country setting at Coolagh Hall, formerly the old National School. The Christmas Raffle will be held on the final Card Night for prizes totalling €900. Tickets are available from any Committee member.


 


THE ANNUAL AMERICAN TEA PARTY & AUCTION for Dunnamaggin National School will take place on Friday 24th Next at 800p.m. in the school hall. This is the 6th Annual Tea Party which not only has become a fantastic fundraiser for the school but is also a great night out. Please come along and join in on a table as host will be provided. Please support this good cause and have a great night out in the process.


 



 


DUNAMAGGAN GYMKHANA wish to express its thanks to all sponsors, supporters, numerous voluntary workers, participants and to the Costello Family on whose lands the event took place. In all €8,000 was distributed. The main beneficiaries were the Carlow/Kilkenny Home Care team and St. Joseph’s Care Home for the Elderly in Kilmoganny. At the presentation of the donations the main beneficiaries expressed their thanks and gratitude to the Dunamaggan Gymkhana for their generous donations which are a vital part of their income.


 


KILMOGANNY FOOTBALL CLUB A.G.M. was held in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on Friday last. Chairman, Mick Lyons in his address thanked all his fellow officers and Dunamaggin Hurling Club officers for their help during the year. He expressed regret that the League Final for 2016 has not yet been played even though the Club has qualified for it many months ago. He was also critical of the Fixtures Committee which has not yet given any date for this year’s U 21 Championship. He complimented the Senior Team management of Noel Lahart and Padraig Lawton and the players on reaching the County Final in which they were defeated by the Railyard. He thanked Pius Phelan for catering for the team after the Co. Final. He thanked sponsors Joe Sheridan and First aiders Cierán Moore and William Mulhall.
