KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: The County Gael Linn U 13 mixed doubles tournament took place in O’Loughlin’s on Friday 6th January, 2017.  Representing Kells Handball Club were Harry Delaney/Orla Buckley and Emmet Nolan/Ailise Mahoney. They all performed well on the night but were unlucky in the final.  In the Adult 40 x 20 League in the Division 1 Final Peter Funchion (Kells) defeated Patrick Funchion (Kells); in the Minor Singles Final Eoin Brennan (Kells) defeated Conor Condon (Kells); in Division 3 Michael Power (Kells) defeated Kevin Murray (Kells) but lost out to Wesley Smyth (Windgap).


The Adult Leinster 40 x 20 championship commenced on 4th January and in Junior Singles Dan Breen (Kells) lost out to Chris Doyle (Wicklow); in the Intermediate Singles Brendan Burke (Kells) lost out to Jerome Willoughby (Wicklow) and Brian Manogue (Kells) lost out to Dan Fenlon (Carlow) and in the Junior B Singles            Diarmuid Burke (Kells) lost out to Wayne Kinsella (Wicklow).

KELLS SCOUTS: On the 28th of December the scouts and ventures went to Waterford to see the new Star Wars movie. They took the train from Kilkenny to Waterford and after spending an hour Shopping headed for the cinema. Everyone enjoyed the movie and had a great day out. On the 7th of January the scouts and ventures again went out, this time for a walk to Inistiogue. They walked alongside the river for most of the day and stopped for lunch at some old tree stumps and logs. Luckily the weather stayed mild and everyone enjoyed the day.


 


DUNAMAGGIN JUVENILE GAA CLUB AGM Club Chairman, John Fitzpatrick, welcomed a very good attendance to the AGM last Friday, 6th January, in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan. In his address he thanked all his fellow officers for the great work undertaken during the past year. He also thanked the numerous coaches and mentors, without whose work the skills of the game could not be learned and teams could not be properly prepared. He thanked parents for their support and encouraged parents where possible to get involved with teams and in the club. He stated that players and mentors and coaches are the back bone of the club. He also stated that there is the conflict in the club between developing the proper skills at the highest level and trying to win trophies. Secretary Denis Walsh gave a comprehensive report on the club’s activities during the past year. He thanked the numerous coaches who attend the various coaching events organised by the Co. Board and encouraged others to participate in these coaching events during the coming year. The treasurer, Jackie Kennedy, gave a comprehensive account of income and expenditure during the past year. She thanked the many sponsors who supported the production of the Calendar at the end of the year. Tom Hic key, the Coaching and Games Development Officer thanked the many coaches and mentor who have ensured that the basic skills are learned appropriately at the correct age. He also asked for assistance with school teams. He expected that there would be two teams entered in the Go Games this year. He also stated that there would be a pre Féile Competition this year. In addition to Kilkenny hosting the Féile this year families will be requested to host teams from other counties. This means that anyone over 18 in such households needs to be Garda vetted. Such a process is now very simple and can be accomplished within a few days.

The lead coaches for the coming year are as follows: Minor Niall Mc Cormack, U16 John Hickey,  U14 John Walsh, U12 James Rossiter, U10 Jim Hickey, U8 Shane Aylward, U6 Tom Hickey. 


There was an enlightening discussion as to the level at which teams should compete during the coming year. The general consensus was that most teams should be in Roinn B and that the U 16 should be possibly in Roinn A but further discussion should take place with all concerned including the players. It was also agreed at the meeting that the executive have the authority to co-opt a vice Chairperson and assistant secretary during the year.


KILMOGANNY BRIDGE CLUB: The results of Wednesday 4th January are: Joint 1st: Margaret Dunne & Mary Delaney and Ellen Delahunty & Emer Wallace; 3rd: Eileen Grace & Margaret Grace. Bridge takes place each Wednesday at 8.00 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. Visitors are always welcome and partners will be provided if necessary.


 


KEVIN’S BED DRAMA IN KILMOGANNY; The next drama I to be staged by the Shrughawadda Players in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny from Tuesday 24 – Friday 27th January 2017 is a comedy by Bernard Farrell called “Kevin’s Bed”.  Tickets at €10 are available from Jackie Kenneally P.O., 051- 648001, Pete Moran 051 – 648283 or Maura Dunphy 051 – 648252. There is a concession on tickets on Tuesday night only for €7 for those who qualify for concessions.
