KEVIN’S BED DRAMA A GREAT SUCCESS: The Shrughawadda Players once again gave a 5 star performance in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. The thespians were greeted with standing ovations at the conclusions each night. The play by Brendan Farrell alternates between the present and events of 25 years earlier. Director Michael Dowling and the cast are to be complemented on their ability to alternate and adapt to the different eras.

The relatively small cast of three men and five women all had previous experience on the stage. Pete Dunne, now a veteran thespian, gave a vintage performance and once again showed the diversity of his talents. Stephen Gilmore, a relative newcomer, performed his role, which involved numerous adaptations, admirably. Martin O’Shea, another veteran, seemed to be comfortable in the various demands that the different eras on the play demanded. Once again he gave a first class performance. Marie Kelly again filled her demanding role with aplomb. Caroline Doran once again displayed a captivating stage presence. Suzie Hickey once again gave a brilliant performance in a demanding part. Rebecca Murphy, from whom Italian flowed as if she were a native, once again demonstrated the diversity of her talents. Rosanne Connolly, while on stage for shorter periods than the others, again showed her mastery of the thespian craft.

Sheila Woods and her assistant Ken Woods are to be complimented on the set design and its variations. The set carpenter, Vincent Murray and Set Builders, Stephen Gilmore, Willie and Anthony Kearney are to be complimented on their achievements. Ciaran Moore was once again masterful in controlling the lighting. Alan Walton switched from on stage to sound effects with brilliant timing. Thomas Duncan also switched from on stage to back stage tasks very successfully. Alycia Kearney, as usual, managed and co-ordinated activities flawlessly. Jackie Kenneally and Willie Kearney were the welcoming and helpful presence of the Shrughawadda Players in front of House. The simple but beautiful programme demonstrated the professionalism of the Shrughawadda Players. Once again Director, Michael Dowling, in his casting and directing of the play demonstrates his unique talents and abilities. While he does not appear on stage his talents have made the Shrughawadda Players one of the best stage performers that exist.
