U14 ¼ final Vs O’Loughlins 13th Sept
The Dunnamaggin U14’s took on current title holders O’Loughlins Gaels in the ¼ final of the Roinn A championship in Callan on Sunday 13th Sept. Dunnamaggin advanced to the quarter finals having beaten Dicksboro the previous Tuesday. Dunnamaggin started very brightly and when Dan O’Neill laid off the ball to Dylan Crehan and he got the games first point. Dunnamaggin followed this up with a well taken 65’ from Harry Walsh. These scores seemed to wake the O’Loughlins lads up and they started into a 10 minute scoring spree with a well taken goal, they then followed up this with two good points The Dunnamaggin backs were under enormous pressure with the half back line of Darragh Walsh ,Alex Moore and Dylan Crehan covering good ground. Dylan Wall in the Dunnamaggin goal was a busy man fielding many a ball and having to be constantly alert however O’Loughlins managed to again find the net and backed it up with a point. Then came a lifeline for Dunnamaggin when they won a 65’ and Harry Walsh (now at Centre forward) lobbed the ball in all the way to the back of the net. O’Loughlins were not going to allow this to alter their flow and although our full back line of Ger Coffey, Kieran Buckley and Dylan Carroll were fighting hard they could not stop O’Loughlins rattling the net again just as half time arrived. Dunnamaggin 1-02 O’Loughlins Gaels 3-03
Derek Carroll came on for Joe Fitzpatrick at Half time. The first period of the second half was a very tight affair with no score until the 13th minute when O’Loughlins pointed twice to nudge them further ahead. Ger Coffey made way for Jimmy O’Neill as we hit the half way point. The Dunnamaggin lads refused to let the head drop and huge work from Harry Walsh and the running and hastling of Conor Brett and Dylan Crehan kept the spirit going. Conor Denny Came on for Jack O’Connell. The endeavor was rewarded when Dunnamaggin were awarded a penalty and Harry duly rattled the net. This was however to be Dunnamaggin’s final score and as the game drew to a close O’Loughlins added a further 1-02 and advanced to the semifinals. A great effort from the Dunnamaggin lads and great experience of Roinn A hurling that will stand to them in the future.
