U21 South Quarter Final Vs Tullogher/Rosbercon 7th Nov 2015
The Dunnamaggin U21 hurlers advanced to the South Semi when they overcame Tullogher Rosbercon in a sunny Dunnamaggin on Saturday 7th November. Dunnamaggin opened the scoring with a well taken free from Eoghan Kearney before Paul Kirwan added to it with a point from play nearly straight away. Tullogher were not just here to make up the numbers and hit Dunnamaggin for three points on the trot as the game hit the 10 min mark. Michael Cody then went on a piercing run from inside his own half and duly dispatched it to John Fitz who finished the job by splitting the posts. Eoghan added another free before John again pointed a free to put the scores Dunnamaggin 0-5 Tullogher 0-3. Tullogher were too good a team to let Dunnamaggin get away and yet again hit Dunnamaggin for three excellent points as we past the midway point of the half. This game was, however decided as it turned out in the ten minutes before half time. John Fitz hit two points from play before Roy Cullen forced his way through the defenders and somehow also finished it to the net as he fell to the ground. This was then followed up with the score of the game. It came from the full back line of Conor Long, Aaron Doherty and William Moylan, who were truly exceptional throughout. Aaron plucked a high ball in out of the sky, drove out from his line dispatched it to his wing back, Paddy Delaney who pick out Michael Cody, boom over the bar. Half time Dunnamaggin 1-8 Tullogher 0-6.
John Fitz started the second half as Dunnamaggin finished the first when he ran in from the halfway line after winning possession and he duly pointed from play. Tullogher did get two points back nearly straight away, but it was Dunnamaggin who were in command. Eoghan Kearney, Michael Cody and Victor Costello were cleaning up serious ball and with Ray Cody and Paul Kirwan getting on more and more ball this one was heading only one way. Jason Doherty made way for Willie Bergin. As we entered the last quarter Adam Kenneally was brought down in the rectangle and John Fitzpatrick converted the penalty when he struck it low and hard to bounce of the ground before it hit the net to give the goalie no chance. John then immediately followed this up with a great point. As the game was heading for a finish things could have ended tighter when Tullogher were in on goalie Jamie McLoughlin but Jamie was alert and solid as he was throughout the game to stop his goal from being breached. Dunnamaggin 2-10 Tullogher Rosbercon 0-8
