Minor Hurling League Final Vs John Lockes 17th January 2016
The Dunnamaggin Minor hurlers finished off their season on Sunday last when they played John Lockes in their Hurling League final. This game had been postponed numerous times since both sides met in the Co.Final on the 1st November last and was eventually played in Piltown last Sunday. Dunnamaggin were dealt a major blow even before a ball was struck when Co. Minor Michael Cody was ruled out with a chest infection. In wet conditions John Lockes settled to the task earliest scoring two points in the first five minutes before Roy Cullen replied with a well taken point from play. This was how the scores stayed for a period when the Dunnamaggin lads started to settle to the task with the Dunnamaggin Half back line of Darragh O’Keeffe, Victor Costello, and Ian Walsh cleaning up an amount of ball. John Lockes then had a golden patch in which they scored 1-05 without reply in ten minutes before Robbie McCauley got a point from placed ball. Both the Dunnamaggin full back line and half back line were working and running themselves into the ground and the scores just would not come at the other end. Robbie did manage to get another two points from frees to send in the sides Dunnamaggin 0-4 to John Lockes 1-08 at half time.
Dunnamaggin did come out fighting in the second half but yet again the scores just would not come as John Lockes now too started to find the scores harder to come by. John Lockes opened the second half scoring with a point on the 10 minute mark and soon after Eddie Dunne and Dara Keane came on for Conor Hoban and Adam Fitzpatrick. Both sides were really starting to hurl well with the Dunnamaggin half back line continuing to clear an amount of ball, especially Darragh O’Keeffe who was exceptional throughout. However the ball just never seemed to fall the correct way for the likes of Chris Keane, Ronan Coffey, and company up front. John Lockes added further points before Jamie McLoughlin made a good run through to fed the waiting Robbie for a great goal chance, alas the Callan Keeper was very sharp off his line and spread himself well to block the shot which was then cleared. Nicky O’Shea entered the fray but the game was closed out by Callan when they scored two more points. Well done lads for a great year’s effort in which you displayed some excellent hurling. Full time Dunnamaggin 0-4 John Lockes 1-13
