Senior FC 1/4 Final Vs Clara

20/03/2016
Senior Footballers advance to Semi-finals.
Kilmoganny Senior footballers took on Clara in the quarter final of the football championship in Dunnamaggin on Sunday Morning last. Early pressure put Kilmoganny’s Kieran Bergin in for a well taken goal in the 4thmin, he then followed this up with a point straight away. Clara responded with a point and Kilmoganny keeper Aron Doherty had to be sharp to block an excellent shot on goal. Clara added another point before Kilmoganny got going again with David Herity next to score from a free. Ronan Coffey and Davy pointed again to stretch the lead. Clara were beginning to play good football and added a further point before Tommy Maher got in on the action with a point from play. Then came a good goal chance for Kilmoganny when David Herity made an excellent break through the defence but Clara scrambled well to avert the goal but Davy pointed from the resultant clearance. Just on the stroke of half-time David added a further point from play to send the sides in at half time Kilmoganny 1:07 Clara 0:04.
Kilmoganny started the second half the brighter as their excellent build up play from defence resulted in a point from Peter Kenneally who was now on for Darren Fitzpatrick. Mark Dowling then got a good point which was followed up by one from Kieran Bergin after an excellent run from midfield by Sean Connery. It was midway through the second half when Clara got their first score of the half which was a goal but Mark Dowling responded immediately with a point after great work and interplay from Kieran and Peter. Kilmoganny were playing some excellent football and continued to build well out of defence. Clara however did look dangerous and goalkeeper Aaron Doherty had to be alert as they exerted pressure which they scored a good point from. Kenny Moore cancelled this out however when the ball broke down the field and he slotted it over. John Fitzpatrick came on for William Phelan as we headed into the final 10 minutes. Clara then had their best passage of play and exerted immense pressure on the Kilmoganny backs and scored a fine point from it. They continued to push for scores and their pressure eventually paid up when they got their second goal. With only minutes remaining they then rattled the crossbar and eventually pointed from the next play to put a score between the sides. A nervous few mins ensued as we headed for the final whistle Clara got their chance in the dying minutes to tie the game when they were awarded a free in front of goal but the Kilmoganny lads lined the goal and the free was saved and the final whistle sounded shortly after. Kilmoganny and Clara played some very good football with the victors showing some great football and great build-up play and perhaps could have had even more scores but for some wayward shooting they were deserving winners and deserve to progress to the county semi-finals.
