Minor Hurling Championship Vs John Lockes 6th Sept 2016
The Dunnamaggin Minor Hurlers took on John Lockes in the 1st round of their championship in Piltown on Tuesday evening last. In a repeat of last year’s league and County final both sides traded early points before Dunnamaggin settled and started to impress themselves on the game. A series of points from the half forward line of Luke Fitzpatrick (2) Victor Costello (4) and the every running Rory Lodge (1) set up Dunnamaggin very well as we hit the 17th min. Morgan Thomas got in on the action then with two points from play before Callan responded with a good point from a free. Victor quickly cancelled this out with a very good long range effort. Then just before half time Morgan Thomas went on a piercing run before unselfishly dispatching the ball to Roy Cullen who made no mistake rattling the net. Half Time Dunnamaggin 1:10 John Lockes 0:3.
Any Callan fight back was quickly crushed in emphatic fashion in the opening mins of the second half when Morgan Thomas scored a good goal. This was backed up straight away by another goal by Robbie McCauley when Rory Lodge’s initial shot on goal came off the Crossbar.3:10 to 0:3 with 5mins on the clock. Dunnamaggin continued to play a fine brand of hurling with any progress Callan made up the pitch being easily dealt with by the hard working midfield of Jamie McLoughlin and Alex Moore and the ever efficient half back line of Jack Crehan, Ian Walsh and Darragh O’Keeffe. Dunnamaggin continued to add some fine scores with the goals coming from Rory, Luke and Victor Costello. Dunnamaggin 5:19 John Lockes 0:04
