Minor Shield Final Vs Piltown 29th Oct 2016
The Dunnamaggin Minor hurlers contested their Shield final in a bright but cool Dunnamaggin against Piltown on Saturday afternoon last. It was the visitors who opened the scoring and they continued to do all the early hurling but failed to convert the scores. It was a tit for tat affair until the 21st min when the ever lively Dara Keane broke from his marker and scored the first goal. Piltown responded with two well taken points. Morgan Thomas entered the fray for the injured Alex Moore. The Dunnamaggin forwards were looking dangerous whenever they got the ball, Victor Costello scoring from play and Robbie McCauley from a Free added to the lead just before half time. Dara then got his second goal of the afternoon after a shot at the posts bounced off the upright, was poorly cleared and eventually finished to the net. Half Time Dunnamaggin 2:05 Piltown 0:07
Dunnamaggin, now playing with the wind piled on the pressure at the start of the second half. Roy Cullen was next to get in on the goal scoring and Victor added a fine point to stretch the lead in the opening minute. Ian Walsh, Conor Hoban and Co. in the backs were working incredibility hard to make sure any score Piltown did get they had to work very hard for. Piltown through their endeavour did score an excellent goal from a very tight angle to give them some hope but Dunnamaggin then added four unanswered points from Robbie (2), Victor and Eddie Dunne to cancel it out very quickly. With still 20 mins remaining Dunnamaggin were in control of this encounter. The work rate of the half forward line, led by Jamie McLoughlin was stopping good ball being delivered to the Piltown forwards. Eddie Dunne then got in on the goal scoring action after great work from Morgan Thomas. Dunnamaggin continue to pull away with some excellent point scoring the pick of which was an excellent one which was worked out from Conor Hoban at Full back to Ian Walsh in Centreback which was quickly shipped to Victor Costello on the half way mark of the far sideline who sailed it straight over the bar.
