U10 Ballyhale Blitz Success

04/09/2012
“Congratulations to the Dunnamaggin U10 team who won the A final of the Ballyhale Aylward Cup for the first time on Saturday 11th August last. The team played three tough games on route to their victory. Their first match was against Carrickshock who battled very hard and Dunnamaggin were fortunate to come out on the right side of a close game. Next up were Mullinavat who stood between Dunnamaggin and a place in the A final for the first time ever. Dunnamaggin fought bravely against a physically stronger Mullinavat team and in the end outscored them to claim a place in the final against Glenmore. The final was a close tense affair with little between the teams. Dunnamaggin appeared to be slightly better hurlers and after some great hurling from both teams, they opened up a gap in the final minutes to claim the magnificent Aylward Cup for the first time in our clubs history. The following day this team was in action again in a tournament game versus Piltown. Again our boys were pitched against a physically strong outfit with hurling to match and we had to fight hard to stay in the game. As the second half wore on, Dunnamaggin started to take a grip on the game and scored some excellent points to open up a gap and finished with a few scores to spare. Players on both days were Daragh Walsh, Shaun O’Keeffe, Oisin McDermott, Andy Hickey, Joe Fitzpatrick, Denis Walsh, Dylan Carroll, Colin Fitzpatrick, Ger Coffey, Aidan O’ Neill, Jimmy O’ Neill Nathan Drennan, Kieran Buckley, Conor Denny, Ruairdhi Holden, Mikey Thomas and Tom Lodge and all contributed well to these victories. Great credit must go to this squad and their mentors PJ O’ Keeffe, John Walsh and Jim Hickey who refuse to yield to any team and continue to compete with the best teams around.”
