U9 Blitz Vs Dicksboro

05/09/2012
Congratulations to the Dunamaggin U9 hurlers who won the Dicksboro U9 blitz recently. The team played three matches, the first game against Graigue Ballycallan. Following a lively start by the Dunna lads, the game was effectively over by half time. After a break in proceedings, the locals were pitched against James Stephen’s in their second game. The Village got off to the stronger start in this game and the Dunna boys were left reeling as half time arrived and the score was 3 -1 to 1 – 0 in favour of the city lads. However, some changes in the team lay out as well as a great fight back by the team saw Dunnamaggin scrape home by one point after a last minute goal left the score at 3 – 4 to 3- 3 in favour of Dunnamaggin. The final group game was against Tullaroan and, after an even first half, Dunnamaggin crossed the line in front after pulling away from the northerners as the second half progressed. This placed Dunnamaggin at the top of our group and left us facing Dicksboro in the A final. This was another rip roaring contest between two evenly matched teams, with Dunnamaggin 3 points behind at half time and the final result was in doubt right up to the final whistle. Dunnamaggin entered the dying minutes two points down and after being awarded a free in the middle of the field went for the match-winning a goal. The ball was knocked out by a Dicksboro player and from the resultant sixty-five, Dunnamaggin again went for broke. Again the ball was deflected for a 65 and from the third attempt, Ivan McAuley scraped the ball home to claim victory by a single point.” Well done to this great group of players who never say die and also the mentors involved on the day. The Dunnamaggin squad was; Shaun O’Keeffe, Joe Fitzpatrick, Denis Walsh, Aidan O’ Neill, Jimmy O’ Neill, Nathan Drennan, Conor Denny, Ruairdhi Holden, Mikey Thomas, Ben O’ Sullivan, Ben Kinsella, Conor O' Grady, Daniel O’ Grady, Aoran Moore, Colin Fitzpatrick and Ivan McAuley. Team Mentors were Richie O’ Neill, PJ O’ Keeffe and Denis Walsh.
