Senior football league Vs Mullinvat

09/02/2013
The Kilmoganny senior footballers played Mullinvat in Mullinvat on Saturday afternoon last in the second round of the league. Kilmoganny started the game better with Kieran Bergin getting a point from play and two frees in the opening minutes. Kilmoganny continued to dominate possession with Mullinvat finding it hard to get out of their half. Paddy Delaney and Bergin pointed again to give a five point lead. Kilmoganny continued to dominate and were awarded a penalty which Bergin converted. Mullinvat responded well, broke forward and drilled the ball to the bottom left corner of the net giving keeper Jim Fallon no chance. Kilmoganny responded before half time with points from Darren Fitzpatrick and Bergin to leave it 1:07 to 1:00 at half time.
Kilmoganny introduced Peter Kenneally for Paul Kirwan at half time and William Hughes for Andy Fitzpatrick shortly after. Mullinvat brought on five subs at once shortly after the resumption in play. Kiernan Bergin resumed his scoring spree with a point and second excellently taken penalty. This sparked a Mullinvat revival and they scored a goal and a point in very quick succession. The Kilmoganny defence was under pressure at this stage but the full back line of Tommy O’Brien, Canice Hickey and Mark Dowling continued to hold strong. Kilmoganny continued to be patient and worked the ball well with short hand passing and it eventually brought about Kilmoganny’s third goal when Kenny Moore made no mistake and pounced on a loose ball and buried it into the Mullinvat net. Mullinvat however broke forward again and scored their third goal before Colin Herity finished Kilmoganny’s scoring with a well taken point to leave it 3:09 to 3:01 full time.
