Senior Football League Semi- Final Vs Clara 9th March 2013
Well done to the Kilmoganny senior footballers who reached the final of their league on Saturday afternoon by defeating Clara in Thomastown on a score line of 1:13 to 0:05.
Clara playing with the wind in a blustery and damp Thomastown started the better. They failed, however to capitalize on their fine play shooting numerous wides, with one even hitting of the top of the post. It was the tenth minute before Anthony Kearney got the game’s first score but Clara responded immediately with one of their own. Then followed a period of dominance by Kilmoganny. Points from Peter Kenneally, Canice Hickey, Darren Fitzpatrick, Colin Herity and Kenny Moore pushed Kilmoganny into a good lead. Kilmoganny were playing some very good football at this stage with great support running by all. Clara found the score board again before half time putting over two fine points but it was Kenneally again who finished the scoring for the half with two points, one from a very acute angle. Half time score 0:8 to 0:3. JJ Dunphy made his return after a long layoff to injury at half time for Antony Kearney who suffered a hand injury.
Clara again started very brightly in the second half and opened the scoring with a fine point but Colin and Darren responded immediately with fine points. Clara pointed again but this was to be their last score of the game. Further points from Colin and Peter maintained Kilmogannys Lead. With Seaghan o’Neill now on for Peter Kenneally and Richie O’Shea now on for Andrew Fitzpatrick Kilmoganny continued to play well and maintain pressure on the Clara defense. It was eventually broken by a great goal from JJ Dunphy. Clara never gave up and pilled all their players into the Kilmoganny half towards the end and forced an excellent save from Goalkeeper Aaron Doherty. Colin Finished off the scoring with a point. They will now play Muckalee in the final next Saturday.
