Senior football championship semi-final Vs James Stephens 14th April 2013
The Kilmoganny senior footballers contested the co. semi-final against James Stephens in a very very windy Thomastown on Sunday 14th April 2013. It was great to see all the co hurling stars from both sides in action despite the National Hurling league semi-final being on next weekend. Kilmoganny playing against the wind, which was blowing straight down the field into the Kilmoganny goal, opened the scoring through Paddy Delaney. Paddy came on as a substitute nearly immediately from the start after a leg injury to JJ Dunphy. James Stephens were quick to respond and take full advantage of the wind with four points. Peter Kenneally kept Kilmoganny in contention with a fine point. The wind was so severe that the ball could be blown in any direction from either a hand pass, kick and even blew off the kicking tee on numerous occasions. James Stephens added three additional points before half time, to send the teams in 0:2pts to 0:7pts at half time. Kilmoganny started the second half well with good points from Darren Fitzpatrick and Davy Herity but James Stephens added two of their own. Donal O’Shea came on for Colin Herity midway through the second half. Kilmoganny continued to exert pressure on the James Stephens goal but the scores just would not come. Kieran Bergin finished the scoring for the match with a good point but James Stephens ran out 0:5 to 0:9 winners.
