Dunnamaggin opened their campaign in the Intermediate grade with a loss in a sunny Tom Ryall Park on Saturday night. Dunnamaggin responded well with points from Darren Fitzpatrick and William Phelan to level the scores. Michael Brennan then pointed for St. Patricks, followed by one from Canice Hickey before Kevin Kelly and Joe Brennan pointed again. Colin Herity came on for the injured Peter Kenneally in the 24th minute of the first half. The remainder of the half saw a real shoot out between the free takers with Kieran Bergin putting over 5 to Kevin Kellys 3. Dunnamaggin were dealt a serious blow at half time when Noel Hickey could not resume play. Peter Kirwan was also forced off with injury immediately after the restart. Kevin Kelly took full advantage of the reorganised opposition and opened the second half scoring with a good point only for Bergin to level the game again. Kevin pointed two more before Kenny Moore registered his first score with a fine pointed free. William Phelan added to his impressive evenings work with a pointed free from well inside his own half. Jody Phelan was now on for Sean Mooney and Maurice Walsh for James Morrissey. Heading into the final 10 minutes no one could call this tit for tat game.
