10/05/2013
The Dunnamaggin intermediate hurlers secured their first win in the intermediate grade against Mooncoin in Piltown on Friday evening. Mooncoin were very quick out of the traps and racked up 5 points to Dunnamaggin’s one from Darren Fitzpatrick in the first five minutes. Kenny Moore slotted Dunnamaggin’s second before Mooncoin put another two between the uprights. Seaghan O’Neill and Canice Hickey replied with a point each but Mooncoin also slotted two more over the bar. A positional switch from the Dunnamaggin Selectors (Niall McCormack, Jim Hickey and Tom McCormack) switching William Phelan and Canice Hickey was the turning point of the first half, with Dunnamaggin scoring 7 points without reply from Kenny Moore(3),Kieran Bergin (2), Seaghan O’Neill and Willie Phelan (1 each). Mooncoin responded with a point before Darren Fitzpatrick replied with a point but it was Mooncoin who had the last say of the half pointing two frees to send the teams in level at half time 12 points each.
Mooncoin Started the second half well scoring two quick points before Willie brought the minimum between the teams again. Colin Herity replaced Paddy Delaney in the first ten minutes of the second half and this sparked another scoring spree from Dunnamaggin with points from Anthony Kearney(2),Canice(1) and Kiernan(1) before Mooncoin replied with a point of their own. Anthony Kearney was creating panic in front of the Mooncoin goal any time the ball came his way while at the other end Davy Herity was seeing more ball than he ever did as Mooncoin kept landing balls into him with no forward present. With ten minutes remaining only 2 point separated the teams but it was Dunnamaggin who took the initiative with points from Seaghan, Kenny and Kieran before Andrew Fitzpatrick found the back of the net with a well taken goal. Mooncoin responded with a point immediately but it was the very accurate Canice Hickey who had the last say pointing a free. Full time Dunnamaggin 1:21 to Mooncoin 0:16
