U14 Vs St Fiacras 23rd May 2013
The Dunnamaggin U14 hurling team took on St Fiacras (Black and Whites) in a cold Skeoghvosteen this evening. The game started slow but took pace within 3 minutes with a swift goal from St Fiacras putting the cat among the pigeons. This was followed by a point in the 4th minute which made Dunnamaggin pick up and take note. Darragh O Keeffe started the scoring for Dunnamaggin in the seventh minute however, St Fiacras continued their attack and scored another 3 points by the 21at minute. The remainder of the second half continued the same. Dunnamaggin got 2 more points from Darragh O Keeffe and Nick O Shea but another goal was conceded before Luke Fitzpatrick was taken down in, what the referee described as a 'fair' tackle and required a few minutes treatment. in the last few seconds of the half, the 3rd goal went in. HT score 3-6 to 0-3.
The second half was Dunnamaggin's to start with a point from Eddie Dunne and that trend continued. They had battled a strong bitter wind in the first half combined with a hill and they were going to use this to their advantage in the second half. Jamie McLoughlin took a blow to the chest but this was not going to stop him. The play on the field battled on but the scores only rose for the powerful Maggans. Points from Rory Lodge and Luke Fitzpatrick set the path for Dunnamaggin's first goal from Luke Fitzpatrick bringing the score to 3-6 to 1-6. The tables were turning !!!
Dunnamaggin continued to show their skill with a point from Conor Lawlor and a great goal from Darragh O Keeffe.
St Fiacras came back with a point which was to be their only score of the second half.
Then it came.. BANG BANG BANG
Another goal from Luke Fitzpatrick followed by a goal from Conor Lawlor and the security they needed in the last few minutes with a point from Conor Lawlor.
FT Score St Fiacras 3-7 Dunnamaggin 4-8 in what can only be described as a heroic comeback from a great panel of players.
