U16 HC R1 Vs Lisdowney Roinn B

The U16 hurlers opened their championship campaign with a win against Lisdowney on Friday night in Larchfield. Playing with a strong breeze Dunnamaggin hit the ground running with five points from play from Ronan Coffey, one from Adam Fitzpatrick and a free from Michael Cody within the first ten minutes. Ronan added another two before Lisdowney scored their first point but Michael Cody cancelled this out with a fine free. Lisdowney gained a slight foothold in the game before half time by converting a few frees. Just before half time Ronan was in on goal twice but both shots were saved and put out for 65’s by the Lisdowney Goalie and his defence. Michael converted the two 65’s. The sides went in Dunnamaggin 12pts Lisdowney 5pts at half time.
Dunnamaggin were the first to score in the second half through two points from Ronan. Lisdowney then sparked into life and slotted 2points and found the back of the net midway through the half. Morgan Thomas was very alert in the Dunnamaggin goal to avert a second certain goal which would have really brought the game close. Dunnamaggin found their feet again and finished the game off with points from Conor Fennelly and Ronan (4). Full time score Dunnamaggin 19pts Lisdowney 1:7. They now play Thomastown in the quarter final.
