U16 Vs Thomastown Roinn B ¼ final 7th August 2013
The Dunnamaggin U16 hurlers bowed out of the Roinn B championship in heroic fashion on Wednesday evening last. Playing against a much larger Thomastown side Dunnamaggin took the game to them scoring two points in the opening minutes through the impressive Ronan Coffey and Michael Cody. Thomastown soon got the scoreboard moving scoring 1:3 to a pointed free from Ronan Coffey. Thomastown continued to open up the Dunnamaggin defence in the next ten minutes and got good return form it scoring another 1:3 before Michael and Ronan could get on the scoreboard again with fine efforts. Thomastown and Luke Fitzpatrick then traded points. A positional switch from manager Mark Heffernan and his selectors Larry Costello, Andrew O’Neill and Aidan Farrell saw Michael Cody switch with Victor Costello and Robbie McCauley on for Conor Lawlor seemed to stem the Thomastown attack and brought Dunnamaggin right back into it when Michael Cody went up the field and scored a great goal. This sent the sides in at half time Dunnamaggin 1:06 Thomastown 2:7.
Dunnamaggin started the second half really well and exerted great pressure which yielded points from Ronan and Conor Fennelly however, Thomastown also scored two of their own. Dunnamaggin continued to exert huge pressure and the minimum was brought between the teams when Ronan sent over another point. The game seemed to be starting to swing Dunnamaggin’s in way. It was however Thomastown who fought back well in the last quarter and scored another goal when the heroic fullback line of Daragh O’Keeffe, Jack Crehan and Adam Fitzpatrick who had fought tigerishly throughout were caught on the break. Killian Lafford was now on the field for Conor Hoban. Dunnamaggin continued to fight for every ball and added another three points from the ever hardworking Michael Cody but Thomastown also continued to slot points over (score 1:12 to 3:14). In the last minutes of the game the every running Victor Costello fed Michael a great ball which he duly dispatched to the net to give Dunnamaggin reward for their efforts but that was to be the final score. Full time Dunnamaggin 2:12 Thomastown 3:14.
