U14HL Semi Final Vs Danesfort
The U14 hurlers took on Danesfort in their league Semi final on Tuesday 13th August in Danesfort. Dunnamaggin were short a number of key players for this clash but playing with the hill in the first half took full advantage of it with two points from Daragh O’Keeffe to Danesfort’s one. Dunnamaggin drove on again when Conor Lawlor was fouled and he duly converted himself. Danesfort came back again to point twice before Conor Lawlor finished the half time scoring with two well taken points from play. Half Time:- Dunnamaggin 5pts Danesfort 3pts.
Danesfort opened the half with some really strong direct running and drew level within ten minutes of the throw in. Then came a period of serious pressure from Danesfort but remarkably they yielded only one point. This was due to the tireless work rate of Ian Walsh and his half backs Dylan Crehan, Harry Walsh and some wayward shooting by Danesfort. Then against the run of play Andy Hickey (now on for Sean Carroll) lobbed in a high ball from the 21yard line on the school side which the goalie was unable to deal with and it found the back of the net. Dunnamaggin 1:5, Danesfort 6pts.Some strong fielding and running by Rory lodge and a positional switch of Robbie McCauley with Daragh O’Keeffe had started to stop Danesfort midfielder’s and their centre forward form running through. Danesfort and Conor Lawlor then traded points and an upset was on the cards. It was however, Danesfort who finished the half stronger and force the game to extra time. Dunnamaggin 1:06 Danesfort 9pts
The Dunnamaggin players had ran themselves into the ground at this stage and Danesfort took advantage. They scored 1:01 despite the efforts of the ever solid Dunnamaggin goalie Denis Walsh and his full back Line of Conor Brett, Conor Hoban and Killian Lafford. Nicky O’Shea did have a shot on the Danesfort goal but it just went wide.
Conor Lawlor did point a free in the second period of extra time and Nicky did have a half chance in front of goal but it was Danesfort’s forwards who found their range and finished off the game winners Dunnamaggin 1:07 Danesfort 1:14.
