U14 HC Vs Piltown 19th August 2013
The U14’s played their 1st round championship game against Piltown in Mullinvat on Monday evening. With Dunnamaggin missing a number of players due to holidays etc, this was always going to be a tough task against this fast moving Piltown side. Piltown raced into a 1-3 lead before Rory Lodge cracked home a good goal to keep Dunnamaggin in the hunt. Daragh O’Keeffe pointed from play but so did Piltown. Piltown really piled on the pressure with 10 minutes remaining in the half and yielded an additional 1-3 despite the best efforts of Dunnamaggin’s centre diamond of Jamie McLoughlin, Rory Lodge, Robbie McCauley, Ian Walsh and also Daragh O’Keeffe who seemed to be everywhere. Conor Lawlor did point a free just before half time to send the sides in 2-7 to 1-2.
Dunnamaggin came out fighting and Robbie McCauley pointed straight away and seemed to be on the fight back with Ian Walsh and Jamie McLoughlin now switching positions. It was however Piltown who drove on scoring another goal and point to Conor Lawlor’s two pointed frees. Dunnamaggin were playing much better in this half and were denied scores on a number of occasions by the exceptional Piltown keeper. Dunamaggin 1-5 Piltown 3-8. Unfortunately Piltown found the back of the net again and pointed straight after to extend their lead. Conor did manage to point another free with ten minutes remaining. Sean Carroll went into the goal for the last ten minutes to allow Denis Walsh up the field and Killian Lafford also moved to the edge of the square. This forced more pressure on the Piltown defence and it immediately created a no of scoring opportunities but the Piltown defence, and particular their goalie was up to the challenge. Rory Lodge pointed from play with five minutes to go but it was to be Piltowns day. Piltown 5-9 Dunnamaggin 1-8.
