Minor Hurling Quarter final Vs Gowran 28th Sept 2013
The Minor hurlers reached the County semi final on Saturday after a good win over Gowran in their quarter final in Kilmanagh. Dunnamaggin started the game with a bang with Ronan Coffey bursting through from midfield and finishing to the net in the first minute. Ronan backed that up with a point 10mins later after Eoghan Kearney, who was excellent throughout had slotted over a free. Gowran started to gain a foothold in the game and pointed twice and but for the heroics of Dunnamaggin Keeper Adam Kennelly could have been level. Adam was extremely alert to come off his line and save a point blank shot from the Gowran attacker who was one on one with him. The game then sung Dunnamaggin’s way again when they were awarded a penalty and Captain Andrew Fitzpatrick made no mistake in scoring it striking it low and hard off the hard ground to give Gowran no chance of stopping it. Ray Cody then got his name on the scoresheet when he pointed two from play and one from a free to Gowran’s one from play. Half time Dunnamaggin 2:05 Gowran 0:03.
Andrew Fitzpatrick pointed from a free and Ronan from play immediately from the restart and it seemed that Dunnamaggin were going to take up where they left off but Gowran had different ideas they pointed immediately and then somehow got through the strong full back line of Jack Brett, Eoghan Kearney and Victor Costello to get a cracking shot on goal but Adam was able to deflect it away but a Gowran attacker was able to finish it to the net at the second time of asking. Dunnamaggin 2:07 Gowran 1:04. The fight back was halted immediately though with good points from John Fitzpatrick from play and a Ray Cody free. Ray slotted another point after Eoghan Kearney took a quick 65 to Ray who was unmarked. Dunnamaggin then failed to score for 15mins and Gowran started to take off a few points, five in total but that was to be their last score. Ray and Ronan pointed again and Eoghan Pointed a free and a 65 to put the game beyond doubt and set up a Semi-final against Slievrue on Sat 12th Oct. Full time Dunnamaggin 2:14 Gowran 1:09.
