Minor Vs StMartins shield semifinal
11/08/2014
Minor Vs St.Martin’s 13th Aug 2014
Our Minors took on St.Martins in a very windy back pitch in Danesfort on Tuesday night (12th) in their shield semi-final. Dunnamaggin hurled with the very strong diagonal breeze in the first half. Ronan Coffey pointed in the first minute which was immediately followed up with a free from Eoghan Kearney. Eoghan then put over an absolutely massive point from well inside his own half. St.Martins were threatening all the time and shot a number of wides as the wind was difficult to judge. Ronan pointed again midway through the half before Rory Lodge got his name on the scoreboard also from play. St.Martins then started to find their range with a point before Eoghan cancelled it out with a fine free. St.Martins were starting to get to grips with the wind and added a further two to send the sides in Dunnmaggin 0:6 St.Martins 0:3 at half time.
Both sides up the tempo in the second half and saw some ferocious battles throughout the half. St.Martins pointed only for Ronan to respond which was followed up with an Eoghan free. Then St.Martins hit a purple patch and slotted over some nice points. The Dunnamaggin backs were under continued pressure and the switch of Eoghan Kearney to centreback and the hard work of Aaron Doherty on the edge of the square was keeping the net from being breached. Conor Lawlor was alert in the goal and dealt very well with some high balls dropping in. Killian Lafford came on for Jack Crehan. The last few minutes saw some great team play on both sides with Ronan from play(4pts) and Eoghan(6pts) with yet another long range free sending the game to a replay 11points all.
