U16 HC Roinn B Group Final Vs Glenmore 26th Sept 2014
The Dunnamaggin U16 hurlers were crowned group champions on Friday evening in Mullinvat when they had a fine win over fellow Southern side Glenmore. It was the losing team who got the perfect start to the game when a long range free in found its way to the Dunnamaggin net in the opening minutes. Dunnamaggin centre back Victor Costello, who was immense throughout gave the perfect response with a well taken 65 immediately afterwards. Glenmore then split the posts with another free before Roy Cullen found the net after a great ball in from Adam Fitzpatrick. Glenmore again responded with another free. Morgan Thomas, who was starting to cause problems down the left hand side converted a free to bring the sides level. Midway through the half there was a very good period of play for Dunnamaggin. Conor Hoban and Jamie McLoughlin exerted great pressure on the Glenmore goal only for both attempts being well stopped by the goalie. Roy put a point over from play to put Dunnamaggin in front for the first time in the game. The positional switch of Jamie to full forward and Roy out to centre forward started to cause havoc, with the always battling and attacking pair of Ian Walsh and Rory Lodge scoring a point and goal respectively. Then Captain Dara Keane put over a huge point from nearly at the stand, which was followed up with another one from Rory. Glenmore responded with a pointed free to send the sides in Dunnamaggin 2:06 Glenmore 1:03 at half time.
Glenmore opened the second half scoring with a point and a comeback seemed on but the rock solid half back line of Dara, Victor and Brian Farrell were cleaning up everything that was being put to them. Jamie had made way for Nicky O’Shea at half time and the Dunnamaggin attack continued to cause all types of problems for the Glenmore defence. Morgan Thomas attacked at will down the left hand side. Morgan converted three frees and a point from play in a 5mins spell with Brian scoring a goal in the same spell from a long free in. Dunnamaggin 3:10, Glenmore 1:04. Glenmore responded midway through the half with two well taken frees before Victor cancelled one of them out with a 65. Eddie Dunne, who was solid in the corner throughout and Conor Hoban made way for Dylan Crehan and Conor Lawlor with 10 mins remaining. Glenmore did have a goal chance but goalie Robbie McCauley cooly grabbed the attempted shot with his hand and cleared it down the wings and from the eventual resultant attack Adam Fitzpatrick rounded his marker and slipped the ball into the corner of the net past the on rushing goalie. Glenmore had not given up and did manage to finally get past the Dunnamaggin full back line to rattle the net but Roy Cullen got a goal back after a great feed from Luke Fitzpatrick nearly straight away. Harry Walsh and Alex Moore came on in the last few mins for the Fitzpatrick brothers and Conor Lawlor finished the scoring with a point from play. FT Dunnamaggin 5:12 Glenmore 2:06. Captain Dara Keane accepted the trophy on behalf of his teammates and thanked mentors Mark Heffernan, Andrew Hickey, Larry Costello and Aidan Farrell, teammates, opponents and all involved.
