Minor HL Vs St.Martins 29th April 2015
The Dunnamaggin Minor hurlers got their season off to a great start by beating St.Martins in Dunnamaggin on Wednesday evening last. Dunnamaggin got off to the perfect start when Ronan Coffey raced through the defense and blasted the ball to the back of the net from the throw in he backed this up with a fine point from play. Dunnamaggin continued to move well when a second shot on goal managed to find its way to the back of the net. St.Martins responded with a very well taken long range point from play. Morgan Thomas then got in on the action when he raced through and bagged Dunnamaggin’s third goal with only 10mins on the clock. Roy Cullen then put over a fine point from play before Robbie McCauley slotted over his first of many frees of the night. Michael Cody was commanding the centre back position with Ian Walsh and Dara Keane making up a very solid line of defense which Martins were finding very hard to get through. Ronan and Robbie (free) added further scores before St.Martins registered their second score. This was immediately cancelled out with a fine point from Chris Keane. Further points from the ever running Victor Costello (who was excellent throughout) Ronan, Robbie (2f,1P)and Michael Cody stretched Dunnamaggin’s lead as St.Martins registered just two in return. Some Excellent goalkeeping from Shane Ivory-Corr just before half time stopped any further advance by the St.Martins men.
The Second half saw Robbie slot over the opening score of the half but St.Martins responded immediately with a point. Jack Crehan and Darragh O’Keeffe came on for Jamie McLoughlin and Roy Cullen on 5mins. St.Martins then sprung to life and managed to score two goals in quick succession to bring the scores to 2:05 to 3:13 for Dunnamaggin. With both sides boasting Co. Minor and Colleges players this game was turning out to be a very lively affair as St.Martins pushed to get more scores. A fine point from Chris Keane settled his team again before Robbie slotted another free. Adam Fitzpatrick came on for Dara Keane (inj.) and Cillian Lafford came on for Rory Lodge. Robbie continued his accuracy on the frees to bring the score to 2:05 to 3:17. As the game drew to a close both teams traded three points each but it was Dunnamaggin who were victorious St.Martins 2:07 Dunnamaggin 3:20.
