Junior HL R2 Vs Rower Inistioge 2nd May 2016
The Dunnamaggin Junior Hurlers played their R2 Junior hurling league game in terrible conditions in Dunnamaggin on Sat against the Rower Inistioge. It was the visitors who opened the scoring only for Seaghan O’Neill to level matters with a good point from play. The Rower sneaked in front again only for Dunnamaggin to level it. Liam Heffernan then put his side in front with at good point from play. Anthony Kearney then fielded a lovely ball and duly converted and when Seaghan then put over a free, Dunnamaggin seemed to be edging in front. JJ Dunphy was causing all sorts of chaos at centre forward and his hard work paid off when he won and converted two points in a row to put his team 0:07 to 0:02 in front as we headed to half time. The Rower pointed again before the score of the game came from Seaghan. Tommy Maher, in his first game back from injury made a great run up the field and duly dispatched it to the on rushing JJ who saw the on rushing defender and passed it to Seaghan who from a very tight angle shot the ball to the back of the net. The Rower did manage to get two points before the half time whistle. Ht Dunnamaggin 1:07 Rower Inistioge 0:06
The conditions did not ease in the second half as the wind and rain continued. It was the Rower who started the half better and immediately pointed twice. The half back line of William Hughes, Paul Kirwan and Andrew Fitzpatrick were working tirelessly and clearing many balls but the Rower were starting to apply relentless pressure on their defense. Both side traded points as the game moved into the final quarter and it seemed like Seaghan’s goal was going to separate the sides. Kieran Bergin and Jack Brett came on in the Final quarter for William Hughes and Jason Doherty. Seaghan Pointed a free to put his side 4points in front but yet again The Rower pointed. Then the Rower, against the run of play managed to sneak the ball to the back of the Dunnamaggin net, a draw game. Then just at the final whistle The Rower managed to point again to give them the victory by the slimmest of margins. FT Dunnamaggin 1:11 Rower inistioge 1:12.
