U14 Vs Dicksboro 22nd May 2015
The U14’s took on Dicksboro in Palmerstown on Friday evening last. Missing a number of players through injury and sickness Dunnamaggin were facing into a huge task against the city side. The game opened with a flurry of scores with both sides conceding early goals in the opening minutes, the Dunnamaggin one tapped home by Derek Carroll. It was however Dicksboro who were settling to the task better and added a further three points in the opening ten minutes. The Dunnamaggin defense were under pressure and but for some cool goalkeeping from Dylan Wall Dicksboro could of stretched their lead further. A fine point from Andy Hickey from play seemed to settle Dunnamaggin and when Harry Walsh pointed a free the Dunnamaggin lads seemed to gain further confidence. Dicksboro got a point back before Denis Walsh got one from play. Jimmy O’Neill came on for Oisin McDermott. Dicksboro got another point to push them three points in front, but a Harry free and a Conor Brett point from play left the minimum between the sides at half time. Dunnamaggin 1:05 Dicksboro 1:6.
It was Dunnamaggin who came out of the traps quicker in the second half with a Denis Walsh free, Draw game. Some tactical switches by the Dunnamaggin mentors, particularly moving Harry to full back and Dylan Crehan to midfield were causing Dicksboro serious problems. Indeed Denis (2) and Conor (1) added further points from play midway through the half before Dicksboro made changes of their own to stem the tide. The work rate of the Dunnamaggin lads lead by Kieran Buckley at full back, Shaun O’Keeffe, Andy Hickey and Ger Coffey was not about to let go of their hard fought lead. The standard of Hooking and Blocking on both sides was exceptional. Harry added a further point before Dicksboro got one back to put the goal between the sides and it was a goal Dicksboro next got, Draw game again. Dicksboro then edged in front from a free. Dylan Crehan and Conor Brett continued to cover enormous ground and eventually won a free which Harry converted. Draw again. Harry then put Dunnamaggin in front with only minutes remaining from the placed ball but It was Dicksboro who tied the game up with a free of their own. Dunnamaggin 1-12 Dicksboro 2-09
