Letter to Parents about player burnout

31 March 2014

Dear Parent,

We are writing
to you to update you on a number of areas that are relevant to all parents of
our juvenile players from U18 downwards.

At a recent
meeting of our juvenile committee three important points were discussed;

  • Player Burnout

  • Player Insurance

  • Communication between juvenile
    players and their coaches

In relation to
the first point, we are conscious that in a small rural club such as ours, some
of our stronger players will be part of a number of our club teams. They may
also be involved with schools teams as well as taking part in other sports. Our
policy is that we do not expect any of our juvenile players to train with
several different teams several times each week. Therefore, we will depend on
the parents to keep the coaches informed if they feel that their child is doing
an excessive amount of training and the club coaches will then prioritise the
training sessions that this player should attend.

In relation to
juvenile insurance, please see attached a separate note informing you of the
club’s policy. Please contact our club Insurance Officer – Andrew O’ Neill 087
9505173 – if you have any queries on this.

In relation to
communication between juvenile players and their coaches, please note that
coaches are not allowed to make direct contact with any juvenile member. All
texts etc. must be directed through the parents. Please respect our coaches who
are all giving their time voluntarily by responding to all texts to confirm if your child will be attending
training/matches. While we appreciate that parents are busy, our coaches are
also busy. We do not want them to be in a position where they have to follow up
directly with parents to confirm if they have enough players for a training
session or a match. On a related point, Kilkenny Bord Na nOg have recently
issued an update confirming that they will not allow clubs to change fixtures
at short notice so your assistance in replying to all texts will
be greatly appreciated.

If you have any
queries on this or any other matter, please contact your child’s coach directly
or any of the juvenile club officers.

Yours Sincerely,
