Junior Hurlers reach South Final

06 August 2015

Junior South Semi Final Vs Tullogher Rosbercon 7th
August 2015

The Dunnamaggin Junior hurlers reached the south final on
Friday evening last when they had a fine win over Tullogher Rosbercon.
Dunnamaggin open the scoring in the first 5mins with fine points from Tommy
Maher and Liam Heffernan. Tullogher bounced back to level matters with two well
taken points. Tommy slotted another point only for Tullogher to level again.
Some excellent defending from the Dunnamaggin Half back line of Andrew
Fitzpatrick, William Hughes and Aidan Donovan started to give Dunnamaggin an
edge and despite Tullogher going in front by a point Dunnamaggin looked to be
getting a foot hold in the game. Dunnamggin then hit Tullogher with three
points from Tommy (2) and JJ Dunphy after a great ball from Liam Heffernan.
Tullogher would not give in and they again clawed their way level. Both sides
traded points as the half drew to a close with the Dunnamaggin scores coming
from two cracking frees from Tommy and a fine point from Anthony Kearney. Half
Time, Dunnamaggin 0-9 Tullogher Rosbercon 0-9.

It was Tullogher who got the first score of the second half
with a point but nearly straight away came a critical score for Dunnamaggin.
Liam Heffernan who was busy throughout the game gave a great ball into the
unmarked Eoghan Wallace who coolly struck the ball past the oncoming defender
and into the bottom corner of the net. Tullogher then, to their credit got a
point back straight away. Anthony Kearney then added to his tally before Tommy
slotted over another free to put the goal between the sides again. The middle
Triangle of Paul Kirwan, Conor long, JJ and Andrew were working tirelessly but
the Tullogher lads would not go away and again got a point back. Tommy slotted
over another free before JJ pushed Dunnamaggin ahead again with a point after receiving
a great ball from Eoghan. With Keeper Ray Cody plucking balls out of the sky
and his back line of Mark Dowling, Aaron Doherty and William Moylan solid, Dunnamaggin
were starting to look good for this game. Then against the run of play, A ball
was adjudged to been pick from the ground by a Dunnamaggin defender in the
small square and Tullogher duly rattled the net from the resulting 21 yard
free. Dunnamaggin 1-13 Tullogher 1-12. This however was immediately cancelled
out when a simple enough ball in by Tommy Maher dropped into the Tullogher
keepers net. Dunnamaggin 2-13 Tullogher 1-12. This really lifted the Dunnamaggin
lads, Paul Kirwan chipped in with a point as did Seaghan O’Neill ( after a brilliant
initial block down by Andrew Fitz) before fittingly Tommy Maher got Dunnamaggin’s
last score yet again another fine point. Tullogher did scramble a goal on
fulltime but it was not enough to stop the Dunnamaggin men reach the south
final against neighbours Carrickshock.
