U21B Co. Final
The Dunnamaggin U21 hurlers contested the co final in a very windy and cold John Locke Park, Callan on Saturday last the 28th November. Dunnamaggin playing against the strong breeze took the first score through John Fitzpatrick in the first minute only for it to be cancelled out by Danesfort with a good point from play. John then had a good goal chance stopped but form the resultant play he did manage to slot over a point. This score seemed to awaken the Danesfort men and they started to take greater use of the wind hitting Dunnamaggin for four unanswered points in 10 mins before John did get one back with a free. Danesfort then pointed a free before John again split the posts from a placed ball Dunnamaggin 0-4 Danesfort 0-6. As we headed into the last 10 mins of the half Danesfort again got a run on the Dunnamaggin defence and despite the immense work rate of Victor Costello, Michael Cody Eoghan Kearney and the impressive Paddy Delany they could not halt Danesfort slipping over another 4 points before the interval. Dunnamaggin 0-4 Danesfort 0-10.
Dunnamaggin opened the second half scoring when John ran up the side-line and slotted a point. Then however came the defining score of the game when a long ball in somehow eluded the excellent Dunnamaggin full back line of Aaron Doherty, Conor Long and William Moylan and the Danesfort attacker managed to slip the ball past the on rushing Dunnamaggin Goalie Jamie McLoughlin to score a goal and give Danesfort an eight point lead. John got a point back from a placed ball but the freer moving Danesfort got another two from play. Eoghan Kearney then got in on the action when he slotted a 65’ but yet again Danesfort got three excellent points from play. Ronan Coffey who was busy throughout did get in on goal but the Danesfort keeper got down well to put it out for a 65 which Eoghan converted. In the dying stages Dunnamaggin were awarded a penalty but John Fitzpatrick’s shot just rose over the bar. FT Dunnamaggin 0-9 Danesfort 1-16
