Minor hurlers advance to Co. Semi- finals

The Dunnamaggin minors took on Emeralds in the Roinn B Co. quarter final in Conahy on Saturday 27th September. Coming into the game after a good win in the quarters Dunnamaggin started the game very well with Ronan Coffey firing over two good points. Emeralds responded immediately with a point. Then Dunnamaggin started on a scoring spree which would amass 2-04 before the clock hit the 10 min mark with Ronan(1- 0), Roy Cullen (1-1), Chris Keane (0-1) and Morgan (0-2) the players on song. Emeralds did point from play but a fabulous sweet strike over the bar from Victor Costello quickly cancelled that out. Emeralds to their credit continued to battle hard as the half reached the mid way point and were rewarded with three points to bring the scores to 2-7 to 0-5. Dunamaggin responded very well and hit them for 6 points on the trot from Ronan (2), Victor (1) and Morgan (3). A particular pleasing part of these scores was the unselfish play and willingness of the players to feed their team mates in a better position in order to guarantee the score. Emeralds did manage another three points before half time but Chris responded with two also. Half time Dunnamaggin 2-15 Emeralds 0-9.

Dunnamaggin started the second half very well with Co. minor Michael Cody continuing to dominate the half back line moving very freely up the pitch and slotting a point over the bar. Roy then decided it was time to rattle the net again and from the next two balls in, he duly did so from the tightest of angles to bring his match tally to three. Jamie McLoughlin and Robbie McCauley came on for Rory Lodge and Morgan Thomas. Chris and Ronan traded points with Emeralds, to bring the scores to 4-18 to 0-11. Emeralds then scored a good goal and from the next ball in were awarded a penalty. Harry Walsh did manage to get a stick to it but could not stop it from going in. Nicky O’Shea came on for Victor.Robbie brought the scoring to a close when Ronan fed him a great ball which he buried and he immediately slotted over a good point from the next ball in. Dunnamaggin 5-19 Emeralds 2-11.
