U14 win Group Final
15 August 2014
The Dunnamaggin U14 team won the final of their
group in Mullinvat against a strong Mooncoin side on Saturday last. Playing in
front of large support from both sides Dunnamaggin got off to the perfect start
when a 65 from Harry Walsh went straight to the net. This did not however did
not deter the Mooncoin side who put over three successive points to level
things. Robbie McCauley then stepped up to point a free to sneak Dunnamaggin in
front only for Mooncoin to level it again. Robbie and Eddie Dunne added further
points only for Mooncoin to sneak one back in what was turning out to be an
intriguing battle between the sides. Denis Walsh then got in on the act
pointing from play to put two between the teams. Mooncoin responded with a well
taken goal but this did not stir the Dunnamaggin teams resolve and good work
from Alex Moore fed the advancing Robbie McCauley the net was rattled yet
again. This sent the sides in Dunnamaggin 2-04 Mooncoin 1-05.
Dunnamaggin started the second half well
with Robbie continuing his superb accuracy on the frees pointing twice from the
placed ball. Dunnamaggin followed this up with points from brothers Sean and
Darragh O’Keeffe before Robbie again pointed a Free to bring the score to 2-09
to 1-05.Mooncoin responded with another well taken goal, this turned out to be
the only score in the second that the very strong Dunnamaggin backs anchored by
Ian Walsh centre back and Conor Hoban full back were to concede. Robbie pointed another two frees before
Darragh again pointed from play. Robbie had the last say of the game with
another pointed free, his seventh of the afternoon to see out the victory for
Dunnamaggin. Ian Walsh duly accepted the trophy on his teams behalf and thanked
all the mentors involved especially team Manager Canice Hickey who has worked tiredly
with this group of players. FT Dunnamaggin 2-13 Mooncoin 2-05
