U14 win First round tie

08 September 2015

U14 1st Rd Vs Dicksboro 8th Sept 2015

Dunnamaggin U14 hurlers beat Dicksboro in Thomastown on Tues 8th Sept last in their first round tie. It was the town side who opened the scoring with a point before Harry Walsh leveled after a good ball from Dan O’Neill. Nearly straight way Dylan Crehan put a Long ball in from a Free and the high ball eluded the keeper and found the back of the net. Dicksboro did, to their credit bounce back with two points as the half passed its midpoint as neither side really hitting into their stride. Harry extended the lead with two well taken frees before Dicksboro yet again put two over. The Dunnamaggin mentors moved Harry to midfield as the half drew to a close and the moved brought with it renewed energy. Dicksboro did get a point but the Dunnamaggin backs lead by an assured Alex Moore at centre back were starting to put their stamp on the game. Harry pointed a free again before Dicksboro pointed to leave the minimum between the sides at half time. Dunamaggin 1-05, Dicksboro 0-07.

Jimmy O’Neill came on for Joe Fitzpatrick at halftime. Dicksboro came out of the blocks best and pointed twice to put them in front. Andy Hickey then got in on the action with a great point from play to level things again. This point seemed to spur the Dunnamaggin lads on and they all seemed to up the work rate and chase every ball. With Dylan Crehan and Conor Brett getting the edge on their markers, things seemed to be going their way. Harry pointed two frees before came a critical score midway through the second half. A ball on the 21yard line was collected by Conor Brett and as he turned he was met by three Boro lads but somehow he battled his way through them to leave him one Vs one on the goalie and he made no mistake. Dunnamaggin 2-08, Dicksboro 0-09. As the game headed into the final 10mins Dicksboro did get a goal of their own but this was quickly cancelled out in the move of the game. After good work from Dylan Wall in the goal he dispatched it to Alex who worked it out to Dylan Crehan who lobbed it up to Andy who turned his man and dispatched diagonally to Jack O’Connell who made no mistake. The Dunnamaggin lads were working really hard as Dicksboro gave one last push. Great working back from the likes of Darragh Walsh, Dylan Crehan, Harry Walsh, Denis Walsh and Conor Brett was proving the difference between the teams. Then as the final whistle drew near a Dicksboro goal after a great initial stop from Dylan did setup an anxious few minutes for the Dunnamaggin supporters. However time was nearly up and Harry Walsh finished up the scoring with another point from a free. A fine win from the Dunnamaggin lads. Dunnamaggin 3-09 Dicksboro 2-09.
