Dunnamaggin Minor Hurlers reach Co. Final.
The Dunnamaggin Minor hurlers reached the Roinn B county final when they beat Tullogher/Rosbercon in Mullinvat on Saturday afternoon last 17th Oct in the Co.Semi - Final. Dunnamaggin came into this match on foot of strong early round victories. The Dunnamaggin selectors were forced into a change in their settled team when earlier in the week their ever running midfielder Rory Lodge sprained an ankle while training in his school. Jamie McLoughlin came into the team to fill the vacancy. Dunnamaggin started the game very well when Ronan Coffey slotted over two quick points from play. This was followed up with a free from Morgan Thomas to put his team three up with only 4mins on the clock. Tullogher were pressing hard and only for some alert goal keeping from Harry Walsh they could of cut the lead. This wakeup call lifted the Dunnamaggin lads and Chris Keane pointed to add to Dunnamaggin’s lead. This was followed up with a great score from Dunnamaggin. A well won ball from Luke Fitzpatrick in corner back picked out Chris in the centre and he put it into the onrushing Ronan to finish it to the net with only 8mins on the clock. Morgan added another free before Tullogher got off the mark mid way through the half. Jamie McLoughlin added a fine point from play before Tullogher pointed twice in quick succession. The Dunnamaggin lads were however on top all over the field with a huge work rate evident from all the lads. Chase downs, blocks, hooks and commitment from all were a big feature of this game. As we headed towards half time, Victor Costello, who was covering huge ground, put over a great point. This was matched by an excellent point from Tullogher but as the half concluded Morgan stepped up with two points from play and another well taken free. Half time Dunnamaggin 1-10 Tullogher Rosbercon 0-04.
Morgan started where he left off in the second half with two well taken frees. The Dunnamaggin half back line of Ian Walsh, Michael Cody and Darragh O’Keeffe were continuing to impose themselves on the game and fed Conor Hoban a good ball to opened his tally with a point. Then against the run of play Tullogher scrambled the ball to the Dunnamaggin net. Dunnamaggin however struck back straight away when Michael picked out Ronan who turned his marker and headed for goal, he noticed Conor in a better position and Conor made no mistake and rattled the net and make it 2-13 to 1-5. Tullogher were however not about to go away and put a high ball into the Dunnamaggin full back line which was somehow scrambled into the Dunnamaggin net. They followed it up with a good point. 2-13 to 2-05. Morgan put another two points on his tally from frees before the constantly battling Tullogher yet again scored a goal when a ball in was pulled on in the melee and found its way to the corner of the net. Dunnamaggin were however to finish the game as strong as they had started when Ronan made no mistake when Roy won a good ball and landed it into him. Dunnamaggin 3-15 Tullogher Rosbercon 3-05. Dunnamaggin now meet John Locke’s in the final next week and they also meet them in the league final the following week.
