Recent Community Games win

20 September 2011

Congratulations to the Aghaviller U11 hurling team and their coaches who created history by becoming the first to win 3 in a row All Ireland titles in any team event at the recent Community Games finals in Athlone. Dunnamaggin had 6 representatives on the team, which is a combination of Ballyhale, Carrickshock and Dunnamaggin. These were Cathal Ryan, Eddie Dunne, Adam FitzPatrick, Dylan Crehan, Dillon Wall and Harry Walsh. The team saved it’s best performances of the year for the finals. In their first match on the Saturday, they beat Claregalway from Galway by 5 – 7 to 3 pts, following up with a 1 – 8 to 6 pts win over Douglas of Cork on the Sunday after a thrilling encounter. The Dunnamaggin representatives were strongly to the fore in both games. This brings the number of Dunnamaggin juvenile players who have won All Irelands in this grade in recent years to 15 and a number of these players won on two occasions. The Aghaviller team was coached by Ronan Blanchfield from Carrickshock, Paul Cody from Ballyhale and John FitzPatrick from Dunnamaggin.
